RMIT English Worldwide uses both formal and informal tools to assess students in English language courses.

Informal assessment includes regular homework and classroom activities to monitor the progress of each student throughout the course.

Formal assessment includes tests, ongoing assessment activities, projects, essays, assignments and other planned activities. For most courses, tests are scheduled at the following intervals:

  • At the end of the first module there is Mid Course Assessment.
  • At the end of the second module there is End Course Assessment.

The Mid Course Assessment (MCA) and End of Course Assessment (EOC) assess the skills of Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing.

Assessment for new REW curriculum introduced in 2010

REW is also in the process of introducing updated courses with new assessment models. For these courses, tests are scheduled:

  • During the course there are Ongoing Assessments; these are administered at various times during the course in the first and second modules.
  • At the end of second module there is End Course Assessment.

The Ongoing assessments (O) and End of Course Assessment (EOC) assess the skills of Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing.
