RMIT English Worldwide has created its own Academic English courses, independent learning and assessment materials to specifically meet the needs of academic pathway students. Students who study with us will develop their English language skills through interactive, communicative print materials and electronic learning activities. Our electronic learning activities are innovative, and easy to use and are linked to the language work covered in our course books.
All our materials have been designed by a curriculum writing team who are highly experienced in the field of teaching English and have a strong understanding of the English language skills needed for work or study.
Features of our Academic English courses include:
- Internationalised curriculum taking into account the range of student backgrounds and study locations. Materials include a diverse range of contexts, themes and topics; a broad range of speakers used in listening texts and address the different language needs of our learners
- E-learning materials to be delivered in-class and provision for e-learning to be accessed by students outside class through RMIT Blackboard
- Discipline-specific content to enable students to access material that is related to their future course of study. The Discipline Specific Modules comprise 10% of each level and are aligned to the main RMIT Colleges – Business, Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) and Design and Social Context (DSC)
- Embedded "tasks" that are relevant to the real world professional, academic or social context of our learners, authentic and engaging for students
- Focus on review and challenge throughout the course to enable consolidation of language and skills
- Grammar booklets for students – one for the lower levels (Pre-Intermediate and Intermediate) and another for the higher levels (Upper-Intermediate to Advanced Plus)
- "Reading folder" in CD format that contains downloadable authentic reading materials suitable at each level
Because REW produces all its own course materials, a high standard is therefore maintained. In response to student and teacher feedback, we regularly review our course materials and update them to ensure that the content is always current.
