King Fahd University of Minerals and Petroleum

King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals is situated in Dhahran in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. The university specialises in a wide range of technical subjects such as Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Environmental Management which lead to Bachelor's degrees in the respective subjects. Due to the specialised nature of its courses, and its reputation as the best university in Saudi Arabia, it takes students from all over the Kingdom.

KFUPM was officially established by Royal Decree in 1963 as a college and subsequently became a university in 1975. To meet the challenge of successfully managing Saudi Arabia's vast petroleum and mineral resources, the university has adopted advanced training in the fields of science, engineering and management to promote leadership and service in the Kingdom's petroleum and mineral industries.

The vast majority of students wishing to study at KFUPM, on leaving high school, need further English language skills to be able to have access to their chosen course. In order to bridge this gap, and better prepare students for their studies in the university, all students must undertake, and meet the requirements of, the Preparatory English Program (PEP).

The PEP is a well-established structured pre-university intensive course in general and academic English. The PEP is part of the preparatory year preparing students for English medium studies.  It operates over two campuses - Dhahran and Dammam.

As part of an elite university preparation program, competition for places on the PEP is intense.

The program currently employs English teachers from Britain, America, Canada, Australia and South Africa.
