Singapore welcomes RMIT English Worldwide

14 June 2011

RMIT English Worldwide (REW) is pleased to announce its partnership with the SMa Institute of Higher Learning in Singapore. Established in 2004, SMa is a leading educational provider, offering a range of academic and executive education programs in collaboration with overseas universities and professional institutions.

SMa has become the latest international institution to offer the REW EAP (English for Academic Purposes) program. It will deliver courses across all levels, from Elementary to Advanced Plus, with part-time classes expected to begin in July.

David Threadgold, REW Program Manager, travelled to SMa in April and May to help set up for the delivery of REW courses, including the training of local staff. Placement testing of potential students has also begun.

Grant Taylor, International Business Development Manager at REW, said: "We are excited to be working closely with Richard Soh, CEO of SMa, and his team to deliver quality English language programs in Singapore.

"I look forward to my visit later this month to observe the great work already completed and to further support SMa in the delivery of our EAP programs."

Partnering with REW includes access to our full suite of materials, including teacher books, student books, eCourse, syllabus guides, course audio, assessment and grammar guides, as well as teacher development.

Staff at SMa have undergone training in REW assessment policy and procedures and are working toward becoming accredited REW assessors.

Mr Taylor said: "We are pleased to support SMa with the delivery of our programs from Melbourne. We are very fortunate to have highly skilled, professional program managers leading our work with our partners offshore. Their advice and guidance can make a real difference in the classroom."

REW is a division of RMIT Training, a company wholly owned by RMIT University. REW works closely with global industry, international universities and institutions and foreign government organisations to provide a range of tailored English programs and assessment.

One of the most successful of these has been Aviation English, which is delivered in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Russia.
